Horse Treats - Yes My Horses are that Spioled.

Hey Hey Heyyyyyy,
I am kinda crafty and like to bake and cook, I figure I get that from my mother. And I kinda spoil my horses more then needed as long as they deserve it and dont get mean. We go thru lots of treats - I can't ride much since it has been so rainy so I am trying to teach Pippi to do some fun little tricks and setting up for halter with both Chance and Pippi. So I decided to try and make some treats. I went online and got a few different recipes. I made three different types and really liked two of the three. Mom said the kitchen looked like horse treats were made (:

                                                                     HORSE MUNCHES
~1 cup dry oats
~1 cup shredded apple and/or carrot
~1 cup flour
~1 1/2 tsp salt
~1/2 cup molassess
~about 1/4 cup water (just enough to make it dough-ie)
Add all together, stir, either put in muffin tins (like I did) or make balls and place on cookie sheet. Oven needs to be 350 and bake for about 10-15 minutes.

I liked these ones a lot. I used both apple and carrots and both Pippi and Chance enjoyed them.

                                                          Colorful Horse Muffins
~3 cups oats
~2 tbls honey (or molasses)
~2 cups water
~1 shredded apple
~3 tbls flour
~2 tbls brown sugar or white sugar
~2 drops of food coloring (I used a bit more)
~crushed peppermints (optional)

Combined oats, water, and honey. Microwave 2 minutes. Add apple, sugar, peppermints, coloring, and flour. Microwave 2 minutes. Oven needs to be 375. Place dough in muffin tins and bake 15 minutes. WILL NOT RAISE.
Pippi and Chance liked these ones too. Mine were suppose to be purple but the light and molasses kinda made it look black-ish purple-ish. I used lots of Peppermints too.
As soon as I opened the container the treats were in Pippi must have smelled them bc she got very excited and walked as far forward in the cross ties as possible. For Chance I had to break them up, his poor little mouth is so tiny.

Both treats look delicious! My mare would eat anything that is laced with molasses - so I am sure these would be a hit.

Trigger even tried one and said they were quite edible even for a human fella

Those look great! I was just looking for a recipe that uses oats the other day because I have some I need to use up, so this is perfect. Thanks for sharing!!
